Hi, do you have any information on who thus man’s parents were? I am doing family research and this name has appeared a few times, but in different time periods.

As far as I can work out William Ernest Bates’s parents were Jane Walker and William Bates who had married in 1879 (BDM marriage 1879/2953 https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/) William Ernest Bates was born on the 8/9/1883 according to his military record . His birth is recorded on BDM (Birth Deaths and Marriages http://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz) 1883/10542 which gives this date.
It appears he was the youngest of three brothers
